Research

1D Nanomaterials for Chemical Sensors
Our group develops 1D nanomaterials (especially SWCNTs) based chemical sensors for detection of organic vapors such as Organophosphor, formaldehyde and high explosive TNT. We functionalize the 1D nanomaterials by organic or inorganic selectors to increase the sensitivity and selectivity of the sensors whose detection limits can reach down to ppt level. For application, our studied focus on chemoresistivity-based sensory systems whose structures can be designed to have large resistance changes in response to a chemical of interest (analyte).

Energy Storage
The development of next-generation lithium ion batteries (LIBs) with high energy density requires finding high-capacity electrode materials. Silicon with high theoretical storage capacity has been proposed as one of the most promising anode materials for next generation LIBs. We develop novel advance materials such as novel Si nanocomposite or novel polymeric binders to improve the critical performance parameters related to energy storage including energy and power density, safety, cycle life and cost.
