2nd Mini UAV Technical Innovation Final Competition Held in SJTU

On May 23, 2015, the 2nd Mini UAV Technical Innovation Final Contest and Awards was successfully held at the Microelectronics Building. Dean of the Institute of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Vice Dean of Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology Yu Wenxian, Deputy Party Secretary of SEIEE Yang, Yifan and Vice Dean Li Ping from Institute of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering watched the competition and then presented the awards at the ceremony.

The competition has been ongoing for six months since the close of 2014. 7 out of 10 final teams were judged according to a set criteria: automatic following, tracing the automatic fly, performance based on the language of flight and gesture control. Competitors learned from all the related knowledge and performed complicated algorithms during the contest proper as well as displayed readiness for the big challenge by showing wisdom and patience. Each team successfully produced remote controlled mini UAVs to complete the required routine and had a wonderful output by deep calculation.

During the ceremony, Vice Dean of SEIEE Yang Yifan gave thanks to the Xu Family for their care and love for the students and the huge support to the innovative activities; she also agreed that the game motivates SJTU students to diligently study and bravely practice and train. The Xus support encapsulates the noble aims of Si Yuan Festival and at the same time, Dean Yang also congratulated and thanked all competitors. She said that with more people loving scientific innovation, promotion of technical improvement is upheld to further make new achievements in the future.

Vice Dean of Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology Yu Wenxian briefly gave the competition’s general introduction. The mini UAV technical innovation competition is the representative of Shanghai Jiaotong University’s 3D Integration of Science and Technology Innovation Contest, itself a brand of SJTU. Machine learning, 3D computer vision and voice recognition, and cross–discipline competition motivate students to do technical innovation which provides a wide platform for personnel training for intelligent UAVA industry.

Sponsored by The XUs Scientific and Technological Innovation Scholarship Fund, the event was directly hosted by Beidou Navigation and Location service lab of the Information Technology and Electrical Engineering Institute and presented by the Association for Science and Technology of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering College.
