7. Regulations on the Dual-degree Programs for International Graduates of Shanghai Jiao Tong University

The regulations are formulated in accordance with relevant rules such as Regulations on Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China, Interim Measures on Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China and relevant rules of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as the specific training situation of international students for dual-degree programs, so as to standardize the training and administration for dual-degree programs and improve training quality.

One Establishment of Dual-degree Programs

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is willing to collaborate with world-class universities to establish dual-degree programs.

 

Goals and requirements for graduates in both universities shall be specified in the cooperation agreement. The following information shall be given, including: the standard and procedures of admissions, the number of students to be admitted each year, tuition, accommodation fees, living expenses, travelling expenses and premium, and the corresponding payment party.

 

The cooperation agreement on international dual-degree programs at university or school level takes effect after approved by the Graduate School and ratified and recorded by the relevant department.

Two Selection and Admissions

Regulations on the cooperation agreement between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and overseas universities shall be observed in the selection and admissions of international students for dual-degree programs.

 

In accordance with the cooperation agreement, international students who will participate in the dual-degree programs are selected and recommended by two collaborated universities.

 

The roll of international graduates recommended by the overseas universities shall be submitted to the Development Center of International Students, Division of International Cooperation and Exchange of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 

The information and materials of international students shall be submitted to the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University after they are collected by the Development Center of International Students. The Office of International Affairs of the Graduate School shall classify the application materials according to majors and send the materials to the relevant department for approval. Feedback about whether to admit the students shall be given to the Office of International Affairs.

 

The rolls and materials of admitted international students shall be examined and approved by the international office of Graduate School and sent to the development center of international students. In the meanwhile, student numbers will be arranged for them.

 

Offers shall be issued in accordance with the admissions list by the development center of international students. Enrollment will be arranged by the development center of international students.

Three Requirements of Training

Training programs of international students shall be established by the relevant departments of both Shanghai Jiao Tong University and overseas universities. Or training programs are implemented in accordance with the collaboration agreement. They shall be recorded by the relevant departments.

 

1. The Duration of Study and Requirements of Courses

The duration of study of international students of dual-degree programs shall be at least one and a half years. Students shall take courses of 28 credits. Courses of 10 credits shall be taken in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Students shall take at least one of the two courses: A Brief Introduction to Chinese Culture (2 credits) and Chinese Language (2 credits).

 

2. Regulations on Credit Transfer

International students of dual-degree programs can transfer the credits of courses they’ve taken in their universities to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. International students shall take courses of at least 10 credits in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Credits can be transferred only after international students offer formal academic transcripts of their universities and submit applications to the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The total of transferred credits and credits of courses taken in Shanghai Jiao Tong University shall meet the credit requirements of master’s degrees or doctoral degrees. Related regulations of Interim Procedures of Credit Recognition and Credit Transfer of Foreign Curricula of Graduate Students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University shall be followed.

 

3. Related Issues

During the study of international students, the supervisors who are responsible for the guidance of students’ study and dissertation shall be arranged by the relevant department.

Four Application and Conferment of Degrees

International students of dual-degree programs can submit Chinese or English dissertation. Reviews and defenses are implemented in accordance with the collaboration agreement. Those who fulfill the requirements of conferment of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will be conferred master’s degrees or doctoral degrees.

Five Enrolments of Returned International Students

Upon completion of courses in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, international graduate students of dual-degree programs shall return home to enroll. English academic transcripts will be offered by international office of the Graduate School.

 

These rules shall come into force upon promulgation. The Graduate School is responsible for interpreting the rules.
