Team JiaoLong of SJTU Won the Second Prize of 2015 Robot World Cup

On July, 22, Demonstration Challenge on Benchmarking Service Robots of 2015 Robot World Cup was held in Hefei International Conference Center. The team JiaoLong of SJTU won the second prize beating the University of Tokyo and National University of Singapore. University of Science and Technology of China won the championship.

RoboCup is the world's largest robotics event organizer, the Robot World Cup organized by it is recognized as the top event in the field of robotics as it is the largest, most influential and it is the highest level robot world-class events. The cup is trying to promote the development of artificial intelligence, robotics and related fields, making a series of new technologies and new methods to obtain integration and verification in exploring the practical issues.

Robot World Cup is held annually. Since its inaugural tournament was held in 1997 in Nagoya, Japan, the event has been held 19 sessions. It is the second time for China to hold Robot World Cup this year (Suzhou held the 12th Robot World Cup in 2008). The tournament this year attracted 47 countries worldwide, more than 500 teams, a total of 2223 people participating.

Team JiaoLong was led by supervisors Chen Weidong and Wang Jingchuan from School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering, including doctoral student Liu Zhe, Zhao Wenrui, Liu Li and graduate student Lan Gongwen, Peng Wei from Robots Student Innovation Studio, SJTU.

The Robots Student Innovation Studio, SJTU was founded in 2011 aiming to attract students' interest and train the creative and practical ability of undergraduate and graduate students through the establishment of PRP project, college students' innovative practice projects, internal seminars, technical training innovation and practice.
