Students from the Department of Computer Science Won the 6th Ranking in DEF CON CTF

In August, 2015, the 0ops team of SJTU which is mainly comprised by SEIEE students from the Lab of Cryptology and Computer Security (LoCCS), won the sixth ranking in the final of DEF CON CTF 2015 held at Las Vegas, USA. It was the first time for the team to enter the final of DEF CON CTF.



DEF CON CTF is a globally recognized top-level championship for hackers held at Las Vegas, USA in every July. A total of 15 teams from around the world participated in DEF CON CTF 2015, including the PPP team from Cylab of Carnegie Mellon University, the Dragon Sector team from the security department of Google and teams from Europe, Japan and Korea. Each of these team showed world-class performance.



What is noteworthy is that three teams from China entered the final, that were the Blue Lotus team from Tsinghua University, the HITCON team from Taiwan and the 0ops team from SJTU. The 0ops team is mainly comprised by students from LoCCS of the CS department. The great performance of the team displays the high level of the academic research and practices of the lab.



Led by Prof. Gu Dawu, LoCCS concentrates on the researches on cryptography, software security, hardware security and system architecture. Its research achievements have been published in ACM CCS2015, AsiaCCS 2014, Raid 2015, ACSAC 2015 and other top academic conferences in the field.
