Chinese Government Special Scholarship- Postgraduate Program

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is pleased to announce the 2013 Chinese Government Scholarship Program for full-time postgraduate studies at the university.


1. Number of Scholarships: 30


2. Application Deadline: March 15, 2013


3. Eligibility Requirements:
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health;
(2) Applicants should be graduates of well-known overseas or Chinese universities, or those universities that have established exchange programs with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with excellent academic performance or recommended by a Shanghai Jiao Tong University professor;
(3) Applicants should not be a student of a Chinese University (except for those who have graduated from a Chinese university for one year or longer)
(4) Education background and age limit:
Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35;Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40;
(5) Applicants should not be holding scholarships of any other category meanwhile.


4. Scholarship Duration
Master’s Degree Students: 2-3 academic years
Doctoral Degree Students: 3-4 academic years
(1) The teaching language could be either Chinese or English. Applicants who apply for degrees delivered in Chinese are required to take one year’s Chinese language course prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified. Only by passing the examinations of the Chinese language could they start their academic studies.
(2) Scholarship students should complete their study within the due time; scholarship duration specified in the admission notice CANNOT be extended in principle.
(3) The scholarship quota is only for academic year 2013/2014, and it cannot span two academic years.


5. Scholarship includes:
(1) tuition waiver, basic teaching materials fee waiver and on-campus dormitory fee waiver;
(2) A monthly stipend (Master’s degree students: 1700RMB/month,Doctoral degree students: 2000RMB/month);
(3) One-off resettlement subsidy of 1500RMB/person on arrival;
(4) Out-patient medical fees and Chinese Government Scholarship Foreign Students Medical Insurance of 600RMB/person/year.

6. Available Areas of Study:
All Chinese-taught and English-taught programs are open to international students. (Except for MBA, IMBA and all SJTU cooperative programs with foreign institutions).
All Ph.D. programs can be delivered in English, and English-taught Master’s programs include:
1) Graduate Program Taught in English at KoGuan Law School
2) Finance MBA and Master of Finance (MF) in Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF)
3) China’s Politics and Economy at School of International and Public Affairs(SIPA)
4) Graduate Program at UM-SJTU Joint Institute (JI)
5) Master of Medicine degree at School of Pharmacy

7. Application Procedure
Please submit the following application documents for the scholarshipby post or in person before the application deadline:
(1) Applicants should visit the website (http://laihua.csc.edu.cn) to complete the application form of Chinese Government Scholarship online, print it out and attach it with photos. (Agency No.: 10248)
(2) One Personal Statement of more than 1500 words in Chinese or English, stating the application reason, family financial conditions, education and work experience, personal awards and strong points etc.
(3) A copy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner can be downloaded from Chinese Government Scholarship Council webpage http://www.csc.edu.cn/uploads/foreinphy1.pdf and should be printed out, filled in with signature of some hospital and doctor.
Note:
1. Please provide a valid email address in the application form for further contact.
2. The application materials will not be returned to the applicant.


8. Review Process
(1) The application materials will be reviewed by the Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University for International Students Scholarship. Shanghai Jiao Tong University will report the results to the Chinese Government Scholarship Council for approval.
(2) Shanghai Jiao Tong University will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Forms (JW201) to the admitted applicants right afterthe results are approved by the Chinese Government Scholarship Council.


9. Scholarship recipients must register at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on the date stipulated by the university. Students who fail to arrive at the campus on the demanded date without prior permission by the university will automatically be regarded as abandoning their admission to the university, and hence their Scholarship status automatically cancelled.


10. Scholarship recipients should enter into annual scholarship evaluation. Scholarship holders who fail to meet the requirements will have their scholarship cancelled.


11. Final right of interpretation of these implementation regulations belongs to the School of International Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
