Chen Chaoping Wins SID Distinguished Paper

SID’s Display Week 2014 was recently held from June 1 to 6 in San Diego, California, USA.  Teacher Chen Chaoping from the Center of Opto-Electronic materials and devices of SEICC, Shanghai Jiaotong University, representing 6 other authors, was awarded “Distinguished Paper,” the first scholar from mainland China to win such prize. Display Week is a premier, worldwide event showcasing advances in electronic display technology.  Founded in 1962, the Distinguished Paper Award was first given in 2000.  Around 6,000 attendees and 225 exhibitors were present yearly at the seminars from 2001 to 2013, which collected over 400 papers.  Display Week 2014 boasts of 430 papers including 11 distinguished papers. The topic of Chen Chaoping’s paper was on ““Single-Layer Fabry-PérotInterferometric Display for Both Color and Intensity Modulations.” An interferometric modulator display featuring a single layer of fabry-perot filter using blue-phase LC and a quantum-dot backlight was described therein.  Using this design, polarizers or color filters were said to be no longer required and also compatible with 2D and 3D display modes.  The paper was also invited for the Journal of Society for Information Display.  This year, Shanghai Jiaotong University published a total of 14 papers for Display Week, 7 oral and 7 published, which made the school top one among the global universities for two consecutive years.
