Abstract:

California PATH is a pioneering and leading research organization at the University of California, Berkeley. In this talk, an overview of the PATH organization will be given, which is followed by a high-level review of PATH research projects on connected and automated vehicles. The speaker will also share his perspectives on the current status and future trends of Connected and Automated Vehicles, which is very active in many regions around the world.

  

Biography:

Dr. Ching-Yao Chan is a Research Engineer and Program Leader with California PATH at UC Berkeley. Chan has more than 25 years of research experience in a broad range of automotive and transportation systems. After receiving his Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley in 1988, he worked in the private sector before joining PATH in 1994. Since then, he has worked on a variety of research projects, spanning from the development of driver-assistance systems, sensing and wireless communication technologies, to vehicle automation and highway network safety assessment. Dr. Chan served as a visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, Center for Collaborative Research from May 2006 to January 2007 and a visiting scholar at Institute of French National Transport Research (INRETS) in the summer of 2004.
