Education

Dr. Gao obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Shanghai, China, in 1998 and 2001. He commenced his PhD study from September 2003 at the Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) Group, of University of Nottingham (UoN), Nottingham, U.K. He finished the PhD research on the zero and low speed sensorless control of induction machines in September 2006, and received the PhD degree in July 2007.

Work experience

After finishing his M.Sc, Mr. Gao worked on PM motor design and control at the Delta Power Electronics Research Centre, Shanghai, as a R&D engineer, till September 2003. From October 2006 to September 2009, he was employed as a research fellow at the UoN, U.K, working on the wide speed range sensorless control of PMSMs using the SVPWM waveform of a matrix converter. In October 2009, he joined the SJTU, and was appointed as an associate professor in electrical engineering. He is currently with the Wind Power Research Centre of the SJTU.
