The school of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was established in December 2001. It can be traced back to Department of Electrical Engineering a century ago and was crowned as the “cradle” of Electrical Engineer in China. The School is composed of Departments of Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Instrument Science and Engineering, Institute of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching Center.

SEIEE consists of seven major disciplines, including Electrical Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology and covering 2 State 1^st-Level Key Disciplines, 2 State 2^nd-Level Key Disciplines and 3 State Key (cultivation) Disciplines. The School possesses 1 State Key Laboratory, 2 State Key Engineering Laboratories, 1 State Engineering Research Centers, 1 State Demonstration Center of Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching, 1 State Teaching Base of Electrical and Electronic Engineering-based Courses, 4 Ministry of Education Key Laboratories, 2 Shanghai Municipality Key Laboratories and 1 Shanghai Municipality Engineering Research Center.

SEIEE has 354 faculty members, including 110 professors and 151 associate professors. There are 2 members of the Chinese Academy 0f Science, 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 Cheung Kong Scholars, 14 Winners of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, 4 Chief Scientists of National “937” Project, and 1 Creative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

There are 668 doctoral candidates, 1973 full-time master candidates, and 3470 undergraduate students. During recent years, the School has won 3 second-class National Award of Education, 4 National Model Courses, and 4 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations. SEIEE highlights cultivation of student’s innovative spirit and sticks on the road for internationalization and spares no efforts to cultivate talents with international vision and competitiveness. Numbers of overseas students continue to rise year by year.

Throughout one hundred years history of SJTU, SEIEE has fostered a great number of distinguished statesmen, entrepreneurs, scientists, educators and about 100,000 talents in relative fields.
