SEIEE Holds Academic Supervision Seminar for Undergraduates

The SEIEE’s Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University held its’ semestral undergraduate academic supervision seminar last April 1, 2014 at Room 3-208.  SEIEE Vice President Li Shaoyuan, Undergraduate Director of OUE Wu Yunlan, Vice Director Gao Yizhen and over 10 other faculty members from the Teaching Commission were present.

Professor Li Shaoyuan, who hosted the seminar, first stated the purpose and requirements of the seminar then proceeded to present the new challenges after the secondary schools’ merger as well as SEIEE’s rectification and improvements. He also announced the new observation system while expressing his gratitude to the Commission Office’s hard work on behalf of SEIEE.  This was followed by a discussion between the attendees regarding last year’s observations. All supervisors agreed that the classes taught in English have made big progress and later gave a suggestion to make a video of the highlights from the classes to share with others. They also pointed out that some teachers carried heavier teaching load than others and some did not prepare well for class. In addition, the high rate of absentees and misbehaviors of students should be given attention and to have the discipline teachers join in to better instruct and observe the students.

By the end of the seminar, Vice President Li praised the school’s supervision and awarded the Certificate of Honor and Letter of Appointment to the supervisors. He hoped that all supervisors would continue to fulfill their responsibilities and share their best efforts to help SEIEE enhance the quality of students.
