【博士培养流程】PHD Program Cultivation Timeline

Each SJTU Doctorate Program student has to finish three requirements to graduate:

And the general timeline to finish those three requirements is:

1. Courses

1) In first two weeks, students choose courses from Program Curriculumn  to make Training Plan. This step should be done together with supervisor.

2) Generally, PhD students have to finish 15 credits in first academic year(1st and 2nd semester).  Note some department requirement is 16 credits as mininumn.

3) To find all courses in English, students could check this database . Not in this database means courses are not in English. Among those courses, 5 courses (total 9 credits) are mandatory

Chinese (2 credits, G090511,fall semester)

Chinese Culture (2 credits, G090510, fall semester)

Academic English (2 credits, FL28002, spring semester)

Academic Writing (1 credit,B080702, spring semester)

Academic Seminar(2 credits, course code and semester info check here)

4) Students could choose 1-2 courses from SJTU Michigan University Joint Institute or Mechanical Engineering School.

5)  GPA ≥2.0 is minimun requirement to graduate. Failure to finish this requirement would lead to failure in PhD General Assessment  in third semester.  Only by passing General Assessment could students step into 3rd step "Dissertation".

2. Publications

Publication could be journals paper or conference paper.Normally the publication should be searchable in Engineering Index (EI) or Science Citation Index (SCI) .

Each department has their own requirement for publication

Each supervisor has the right to decide more specific requirement.

Normally, students needs to finish this requirement before the end of second year of the whole program.

3. Dissertation

After finishing all courses with GPA≥2.0, and publish two papers as first author, student could initiate Proposal, which is a sign to ignite dissertation procedure, normally in the end of third semester.
