Research

Dr. Wei-Lin Jin is an Associated Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interest mainly focuses on molecular mechanism of neural repair and the fundamental issue of cancer biology and pharmacotherapeutics.
CNS neural development and regeneration is his first interest. He is very interested in investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for CNS homeostasis, diseases and regeneration. In his lab, they first found the adapter proteins SrGAP1-3 occurring nuclear translocation during brain development; further investigation revealed that they can interact with chromatin remodeling factor Brg1 and thus affect dendritic development. The abnormalities of these molecules are closely related to neurodevelopmental diseases, such as mental retardation, schizophrenia, autism and seizure. Another important breakthrough from his group is identified a novel domain from Nogo-A, originally cloned from myelin. They found that M9 domain in amino-Nogo-A has a neuroprotective role against oxidative stress. The reagent may be an approach or translational potentials as molecular intervention in axon regeneration, cerebral ischemia and neurodegeneration diseases.
In the cancer biology, Prof. Jin focuses on cancer stem cells and cancer epigenetics. He hopes to understand the adaption of cancer stem cells in hypoxic and high ROS environment and try to search for some new strategies for treatment.
As PI, Dr. Jin was rewarded four grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China in the last five years. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and their findings have been published in some important professional journals, such as Cell, Nature Communications, Cancer Res, Cell Death and Differentiation, Biomaterials, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Med Res Rev, Cancer Letters, Oncotarget, Molecular and cellular Neuroscience, J Comp Neurol and Anesthesiology.
