Requirements for master's degree students to publish academic papers

In order to improve the quality of graduate education and degree awarding, strengthen the cultivation of scientific research ability and academic level of graduate students, and encourage them to make innovative achievements, according to the spirit of relevant documents of the University and the actual situation of various disciplines in our college, the following regulations and explanations are made for the academic papers published by the graduate students of our college during the semester.

Requirements for Postgraduates obtain master degree in SJTU:

Basic requirements and identification methods for Shanghai Jiaotong University to apply for academic master's degree and publish academic papers:

 (if the requirements of various disciplines are lower than the requirements of the school, the requirements of the school shall prevail)

Quantity requirement: before applying for dissertation defense, at least one academic paper related to the main content of dissertation shall be published (or employed). Those who have won the science and technology achievement award or invention patent (open or above) above the provincial and ministerial level can be exempted from the requirement of publishing papers.

Quality requirements: academic papers must be published (or employed) in public or published academic journals. The list of publications shall be determined by the academic degree evaluation sub committees.

Identification method: the academic thesis must be published (or employed) in the journal recognized by the degree evaluation sub-committee with Shanghai Jiaotong University as the first unit during the period of master's degree. If the degree applicant is the first author, 1 / 2 of the papers published by the second author (including the co first author but ranking the second) is counted as 1 / 2 if the first author is his / her tutor; otherwise, the third author and the latter are not included.

Electrical engineering department master degree requirements:

1）For students of grade 2017 and before 2017 grade: 

1. In principle, the journals of academic papers published by postgraduates should be the core journals (including employment) recognized by the University.

2. If the conference papers are included in EI, they can meet the requirements of (1), but the full text of the papers must be able to be retrieved on EI during the thesis defense, and the retrieval proof shall be provided. 3. The scientific research achievements obtained by master students in the name of students of Shanghai Jiaotong University during the semester can be equivalent to the publication of academic papers. If you get the national science and technology achievement award, you can be exempted from the requirement of publishing papers; if you get the top 8 of the first prize of provincial science and technology achievement award, or the top 5 of the second prize, or the top 2 of the third prize, or obtain the authorization of invention patent, it is equivalent to publishing SCI or EI papers; if you win the provincial science and technology achievement award or obtain the invention patent disclosure, it is equivalent to publishing the same number of core academic papers.

4. The journal requirement of the tutor for students to publish papers can be higher than but not lower than (1).

Note: postgraduates must be the first inventor of the invention patent

2) Applicable to students of grade 2018 and beyond 2018 grade: 

(1) Before applying for dissertation defense, the master's degree candidate shall publish at least one academic paper related to the main contents of the dissertation in the following journals or conferences: (a) journal list of the Department of electrical engineering EI, SCI international journals; (b) Chinese Core Journals of electrical engineering, see Annex 1; (c) conferences encouraged by disciplines, see Annex 2; (d) international conferences retrieved by EI; (E) University Journals retrieved by EI and SCI.

(2) The requirements of the tutor for students to publish papers can be higher than but not lower than (1).

(3) According to the requirements of (c) and (d) conference papers in (1): for conferences encouraged by the discipline, the students who are studying at the meeting should participate as much as possible. When applying for dissertation defense, the students should submit the certification materials of registration and participation of the author or the co-author of the thesis; for the International Conference of EI retrieval, the whole paper must be able to be retrieved on EI when applying for dissertation defense, and the retrieval proof should be provided;

 (4) During the semester, the research achievements obtained in the name of students of Shanghai Jiaotong University can be equivalent to the publication of academic papers. If you get the national science and technology achievement award, you can be exempted from the requirement of publishing papers; if you get the top 8 of the first prize of provincial science and technology achievement award, or the top 5 of the second prize, or the top 2 of the third prize, or obtain the authorization of invention patent, it is equivalent to publishing SCI or EI papers; if you win the provincial science and technology achievement award or obtain the invention patent disclosure, it is equivalent to publishing the same number of core academic papers.

(5) The published academic papers must be signed and published in the name of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and one thesis published by the first author shall be counted as one; the papers published by the second author (the first author must be his supervisor) shall be counted as 1 / 2; the third author and the latter shall not be counted.

(6) As for the academic papers related to the main contents of the dissertation, the tutor published the Chinese Journal of electrical engineering, Chinese Journal of electrical technology, power system automation and other SCI journals other than the list of negative journals, and one paper was written by students for two works.

(7) Those who have published papers outside the scope of (1) will be submitted to the degree sub committee of electrical engineering for discussion.

This decision was formally implemented on November 20, 2019, and is applicable to full-time academic and professional graduate students of grade 2018 and later. The final power of interpretation belongs to the degree committee of electrical engineering.

Control science and engineering department master degree requirements:

1) Requirements for postgraduate students enrolled before 2019

 (1) Before applying for dissertation defense, postgraduates shall publish at least one academic paper related to the main contents of their dissertations in the following journals or conferences: (a) international journals with official serial numbers; (b) domestic journals encouraged by disciplines, see Annex 1; (c) international conferences for EI retrieval; (d) domestic conferences encouraged by disciplines, see Annex 3.

(2) According to the requirements of (c) and (d) conference papers in (1): the papers submitted to the conference should be employed and registered. Students who are studying in the conference should try to participate in the meeting. When applying for a degree, they should submit the evidence of participation. If the graduation time of the students is earlier than the meeting time, the tutor should arrange other authors to communicate with each other to avoid "noshow" phenomenon. When applying for a degree, they need to submit registration certification materials and guidance A signed document arranged by the division to read out the thesis.

(3) The scientific research achievements achieved during the semester can be equivalent to the publication of academic papers. If a national science and technology achievement award is obtained, the requirement for publication of a paper can be exempted; if the first prize or the second prize of the provincial scientific and technological achievement award is obtained, or the top five of the third prize, or the authorization of invention patent, it is equivalent to publishing academic papers of international journals; if the provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological achievement award is obtained, or the invention patent is disclosed, it is equivalent to publishing academic papers in domestic journals.

(4) The published academic papers must be signed and published in the name of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and one thesis published by the first author shall be counted as one; the papers published by the second author (the first author must be his supervisor) shall be counted as 1 / 2; the third author and the latter shall not be counted.

(5) Those who have published papers that are not in the scope of (1) shall be submitted to the sub Degree Committee for discussion.

 (6) The above provisions are the basic requirements for the research work of master degree students. The tutor puts forward the specific requirements for the defense of master's thesis according to the different research contents of master's degree students.

2) Requirements for postgraduate students enrolled in and after 2019

(1) Before applying for dissertation defense, at least one academic paper approved by the tutor shall be published;

(2) Requirements for published conference papers: Papers of the conference shall be employed and registered. Students who are studying in the conference shall try to participate in the meeting. When applying for a degree, they shall submit the certificate of participation. If the graduation time of the students is earlier than the meeting time, the tutor shall arrange other authors to attend the meeting to avoid "noshow" phenomenon. When applying for a degree, the registration certificate and the signature of the thesis read out arranged by the tutor shall be submitted Word file.

(3) The published academic papers must be signed and published in the name of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and one thesis published by the first author shall be counted as one; the papers published by the second author (the first author must be his supervisor) shall be counted as 1 / 2; the third author and the latter shall not be counted.

(4) The above provisions are the basic requirements for the research work of master degree students. The tutor puts forward the specific requirements for the defense of master's thesis according to the different research contents of master's degree students.

computer science and technology department master degree requirements:

1)   Postgraduates enrolled in grade 2016 and before:

The students are required to publish at least one academic paper in SCI (Science Citation Index) or EI (Engineering Index) or in Chinese Core Journals of Peking University before applying for defense.

Academic papers published by postgraduates must be published in the name of Shanghai Jiaotong University and signed by the postgraduates themselves as the first author.

2) Postgraduates enrolled in 2017 and beyond:

A、 Provisions on awarding master's degree (academic type) to publish papers:

1. Method of quantity identification:

During the semester, Shanghai Jiaotong University will be the first unit to publish (or employ) one of the following listed publications. If the applicant is the first author, 1 article will be counted; if the second author is 1 / 2 (one work must be his / her tutor), the third author and the latter will not be included.

2. Quality identification method:

a) Scie journals

b) List of international conferences / journals recommended by CCF

c) Contents of important international academic conferences of Shanghai Jiaotong University file a / b

d) Designated Chinese Journals: Chinese science, science bulletin, computer science journal and software Journal

Note: if the list is updated, it will be processed according to the list of applicants after enrollment.

B、 Provisions on awarding scientific research achievements of master's degree (professional type)

During the semester, the degree applicant shall apply for one national invention patent with Shanghai Jiaotong University as the first completion unit, with the application number and the signature of the tutor. At the same time, one patent can only be used for one applicant. Or the applicant meets the requirements for academic master's degree.

This requirement will be implemented from the master's degree in computer science and technology, computer technology and software engineering, who were enrolled in 2017. The final interpretation right of this requirement belongs to the computer and software degree evaluation committee of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Electronic Science and Technology & information and Communication Engineering department master degree requirements:

1) Postgraduate students enrolled before 2019:

 (1) In principle, as long as there is an official journal number for the academic papers published by postgraduates, the supplement of official journals is also effective.

(2) The periodical requirements of the tutor for students to publish papers can be higher than but not lower than the requirements of (1).

(3) Conference papers are limited to international conferences which are included in EI.

(4) The tutor is responsible for examining and approving the journals published by the graduate students, and after signing the agreement, the postgraduate students can obtain the materials needed for applying for dissertation defense from the academic administrator.

2) Postgraduate students enrolled in and after 2019:

Quantity requirement: before applying for dissertation defense, at least one academic paper related to the main content of dissertation shall be published (or employed).

Quality requirements: academic papers must be published (or hired) in public or published academic journals and included in SCI or EI or Chinese core journals.

Identification method: the academic thesis must be published (or employed) in the journal recognized by the degree evaluation sub-committee with Shanghai Jiaotong University as the first unit during the period of master's degree. If the degree applicant is the first author, 1 / 2 of the papers published by the second author (including the co first author but ranking the second) is counted as 1 / 2 if the first author is his / her tutor; otherwise, the third author and the latter are not included.

Conference papers need to be included in EI.

Instrument Science and technology department master degree requirements:

1】Postgraduate students enrolled before 2019:

(1) At least one academic paper related to the main content of the degree published (or employed) in SCI or EI or Chinese core journals, or academic conferences of the discipline, and the conference papers must be attended and exchanged.

(2) The academic papers published by postgraduates must be signed and published in the name of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and one thesis published by the first author shall be counted as one paper; the papers published by the second author (the first author must be his supervisor) shall be counted as 1 / 2; the third author and the latter shall not be counted.

(3) The tutors of theses submitted by postgraduates are correspondence authors.

(4) The above provisions are the basic requirements for the research work of master degree students. The tutor puts forward the specific requirements for the defense of master's thesis according to the different research contents of master's degree students.

2】 Postgraduate students enrolled in and after 2019:

One of the following conditions is met:

 (1) Publish (or employ) at least one SCI or EI retrieval source journal or core journal paper recognized by the discipline as the first author or the first author other than the tutor;

(2) The first or the first inventor other than the tutor shall obtain at least one national invention patent authorization related to the contents of the dissertation;

(3) He has won the national science and technology achievement award, or the first prize (top 8 signatures), the second prize (top 5 signatures) and the third prize (top 3 signatures) of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievements.

The academic achievements of the above-mentioned postgraduates must be obtained during the postgraduate period, and Shanghai Jiaotong University shall be the first completion (or signature or authority) unit. The above provisions on academic achievements are the basic requirements for academic postgraduates to apply for degrees. Tutors are encouraged to put forward other supplementary requirements no less than the above requirements according to the different research directions and contents of postgraduates.

Cyberspace Security department master degree requirements:

1】       Postgraduate students enrolled in 2018 and before 2018

The requirements for the master's degree of 2018 and before are the same as those of Jiaotong University.

2】 Postgraduate students enrolled in and after 2019:

One academic paper should be published as the first author in the following journals / conferences:

a) SCI journals;

b) Academic journals / conferences recommended by CCF, Chinese Academy of Sciences and cacr (subject to the list published at the time of admission);

c) Chinese science, science bulletin, Journal of computer science, Journal of software, Journal of electronics, Journal of communications, Journal of cryptography, Journal of network and information security

Note: for the case of multiple first authors, one paper can only be used for calculation once. For papers listed in negative journals / conferences or published in journals / conferences that are not recognized in the professional academic field, the tutor or degree committee has the right to determine through necessary procedures that such papers shall not be regarded as graduation requirements.
